Peak Chair takes on 70th Birthday Bash
Peak District National Park Foundation trustee and Chair of the Authority, Andrew McCloy, is putting his best foot forward to celebrate the National Park’s 70th anniversary and raise funds for the Foundation at the same time. He’s aiming to walk 35km (22.75 miles) in a day as part of Peak Running’s Birthday Bash event on Saturday 9th April – and he needs your support to get him over the line!

The event is open to walkers and runners (but Andrew says he will most certainly be walking). It starts and finishes at Castleton and the route takes in Hayfield and Edale via Kinder Scout. This is particularly timely as April 2022 marks the 90th anniversary of the Kinder Scout Mass Trespass, a pivotal event in the 20th century access movement and which ultimately resulted in the Peak District becoming the UK’s first National Park in 1951.
Kinder Scout is also the site of early work by the ground breaking Moors for the Future Partnership, a pioneering peatland restoration programme that the National Park Authority has supported from the beginning and which the Foundation continues to fundraise for – so your backing for Andrew’s challenge walk will help important causes like this.
Andrew says: “I’m incredibly proud of what this National Park has achieved over the last 70 years and the role that it continues to play promoting mental and physical good health, connecting people with nature and encouraging an appreciation of landscape and natural beauty. I’m determined that the National Park will continue its pioneering role and in particular lead the way on addressing nature recovery and tackling climate change. To do this we need adequate resources, which is why the extra help that the Peak District National Park Foundation offers is so important. If you value your National Park and want to put something back please show your support for the Foundation.”
