Protecting our cultural heritage

People have lived in the Park for over 10,000 years, shaping the landscape and leaving a wealth of cultural history. This can be seen in walls and field patterns, buildings, villages and former railways, as well as prehistoric features such as burial mounds and stone circles.

Yet pressures on the Park, combined with much heritage not being regularly monitored and protected, is putting heritage at risk of further degradation.

We want to ensure that the Peak District’s story is remembered for future generations. We want to preserve our important landmarks, and teach visitors about their importance.

We are fundraising to improve the monitoring and protection of heritage in the Park, to encourage volunteering in the cultural heritage sector and increase public understanding of the need to look after our heritage.
