Janet grew up on the western edge of the Peak District, an experience that inspired her career in geography and environmental management. Having lived in London, Hong Kong and Kent, she was delighted to return ‘home’ ten years ago. Professionally, Janet has spent much of her career as an academic, latterly as a Faculty Dean and Professor of Sustainability and Leadership.

Nowadays, when she isn’t hill walking with her border collie, travelling, crafting, swimming or practicing yoga, Janet applies her professional skills and experience in a range of trustee and advisory roles. She is currently Deputy Chair at the Peak District National Park Authority, having been appointed by Defra in 2019. Additionally, she is Chair of Trustees for the Land Trust (an organisation that takes urban/industrial land into green space for the benefit of community, education, health and environment) and chairs the Regional Advisory Group for the National Trust in the North. Previously, she was a trustee and Chair of the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges (EAUC).

Feeling privileged to grow up – and continue to live – in such as special place, Janet is keen that the Peak District not only survives, but flourishes, going forward and that it is appreciated and enjoyed across all walks of life.
